Claims About Islam and Some Replies to Them no comments
Ridiculous and superficial claims are often made by Modernist (or simply uninformed) Muslims about what Islam is or isn’t… Here is a list of some of the oft-repeated claims we hear, and some short replies to them:
Claim no. 1: Islam is Democracy!
False! Democracy is “dêmos krátos” [more on that here] – the rule of the people – man-made laws. Representatives are elected and they come up with new laws and a lot of these laws change every time a new government is elected. Democracy is the “nice word” for the Capitalist system.
Fact: In Islam the “ruling system” is Shari’a, not “Democracy”!
Claim no. 2: Islam is really Communism – but with belief in God!
False! Communism is completely different from Islam. Even if there were to be a “New Communism” which included belief in God, which is unlikely as Atheism is a core concept of Communism, it would be nothing like Islam.
Claim no. 3: Islam is just like the Scandinavian wellfare system!
False! The Scandinavian wellfare system is ever changing, populistic and flawed, unlike the just “social system” of Islam.
Claim no. 4: Islam is non-violent!
While it is true that the result of a full implementation of Shari’a will result in peace, Islam is not pacifism! Meaningless violence is not allowed by Islam, but there are indeed valid forms of war in Islam.
Claim no. 5: Islam never forces anything on people!
False! While it is impermissible to force people to become Muslims, Islam is a mercy meant to be spread to the whole World and that entails implementing Shari’a in the newly conquered territories, whether the inhabitants there like it or not.
Claim no. 6: In Islam we have free choice!
In a lot of matters? Yes! Unlimited free choice? No. Once a person becomes a Muslim he or she is bound by the Shari’a and its boundaries.
Claim no. 7: In Islam men and women are equal!
With regard to their status with Allah and in the next life, their potential reward or punishment and a lot of other matters, yes. But do men and women have the same roles in Islam? No.
Allah the Almighty in His infinite wisdom has given men and women different, but equally important, roles to play, in accordance with their nature.
Claim no. 8: Islam is human rights!
False. While Islam does give humans (and animals) a multitude of rights, many of the so-called “human rights”, which are given an almost “holy” status by the Capitalists, are in fact at odds with Islam (and many other religions).
“Human rights” are man-made and the rights of humans in Islam are God given.
